About Riccarton
Riccarton is Christchurch's oldest European settlement. The Deans brothers established a farm here in 1843, naming it after the parish in Ayrshire, Scotland, where they were born. Riccarton Bush, also known as Deans Bush, is the only surviving swamp forest on the Canterbury Plains.
