Leak Diagnostics

Found the leak other shops couldn't

A damp carpet or a mystery drip after rain is one of the hardest things to diagnose properly, and one of the easiest to patch over without actually fixing. Andrew has a genuine reputation locally for tracking down leaks that other shops have given up on or sealed over without solving.

Why water leaks are so hard to diagnose

Water rarely enters where it ends up. A wet footwell can be the result of a failed seal at the base of the windscreen, a blocked sunroof drain channel, a perished door seal, or a gap left by panel work done somewhere else entirely, sometimes metres away from where the damp actually shows up. Gravity, panel gaps, and interior trim all move water around before it pools somewhere visible, which is exactly why guesswork and re-sealing the "obvious" spot so often fails to fix the problem.

A proper diagnosis means working through the car systematically: checking seals, drain channels, weld seams, and panel joins under controlled conditions, rather than assuming the leak is wherever the water happens to show up inside the cabin. It's slower than a quick reseal, but it's the only way to actually stop a leak rather than temporarily disguise it.

This is also where crash repair history matters. A car that's had panel work done, whether by us or elsewhere, needs those seams and seals checked as part of any leak investigation, since a leak that starts after a repair is often related to it.

Problems this solves

Damp carpet or footwells

Tracing water back to its actual entry point, not just drying out the interior and hoping it doesn't come back.

Leaks that came back after a "fix"

If a previous reseal hasn't worked, we start from scratch rather than resealing the same spot again.

Post-repair leaks

Checking seams, seals and panel joins connected to prior crash repair work as part of the investigation.

Musty smells or mould

Ongoing damp that isn't obviously located, addressed at the source rather than masked.
